One of the limiting error sources in DORIS data is the stability of the Ultra-Stable Oscillator (USO). It has been demonstrated that the USOs on different DORIS satellites are perturbed to different degrees by radiation exposure experienced during passage through the South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA) Region. On the Sentinel-3A,-3B,-6A satellites, the connection between the DORIS USO and the GPS clock affords a means to observe in fine detail the DORIS clock behavior, and derive an improved model that can be used in the data processing. Under the auspices of the working group “Integrated Clock Correction Strategies for DORIS”, GFZ has developed a tool to apply clock corrections directly to the original observation data. Alternatively, corrected observation files can be generated and provided to the user. (comparable to the Jason-1 data or the cc2noncc program used in GNSS processing). The benefit of this approach is that this allows users to benefit without requiring significant implementation effort on their side.
We propose to apply these tools to correct the original DORIS data, and then process the corrected data in GEODYN and EPOS-OC. We make comparisons with the original data, analyze the changes in the behavior of the DORIS residuals, and assess the impacts on precise orbit determination, and the geophysical products.
